Carson's First Haircut

I cut Carson's hair for the first time this week. We think it really makes him look like a big boy. We were a little sad to lose his baby curls, but there just weren't enough to make it worth the mullet he was developing! He did well, I just let him play on my bathroom vanity with a snip here and there until we were done. I don't think he would just sit in a chair and let me cut his hair though. Here are a couple of pics. He is sitting in his booster seat that he has grown fond of carrying around the house.

I took him yesterday to try to get his pictures taken, but that didn't go so hot. We just left after a couple of minutes as things were quickly going down hill and he wouldn't relinquish the binky or "de-de" as he calls it. so we may not get any toddler pics for a while, other than candids.

Rah, Rah, Rah!`

Fall is come along so fast! It is hard to believe it is the middle of October!

Carson has decided he is not going to do anything he doesn't want to do. (I wish he were the only child with such notions, not one of a few) So he apparently doesn't wear bibs anymore, sit in the tub, ride in a carseat, get his diapers changed or wear clean clothes. He does however plug things in empty outlets, climb onto counters, ride in the car wearing only a seat belt, wear dirty diapers all day long, and steal anything good anyone is eating or drinking! Ah, to be a baby and be catered to all day! !

Caleb is getting to play defense now in football, so he is alot less bored and actually enjoying the game a bit more. He has yet to pull a flag, but is getting more and more on the ball. The following video is of their jamboree day (they were just scrimmaging there own team), so he first ever experience in the game. He is less slow on the uptake. He is still busy plotting the big day when he runs away. It was going to be Christmas so he could ask santa for all the gear he would need, but now it will be the day after his birthday. he is pretty serious about the whole thing and showed me where his new home will be. Fortunately it is in the Trumans backyard in the bushes by the bus stop, so i won't worry too much while he is away! lol

Emily is doing well at volleyball, she still gets discouraged, but she needs to give it time, and keep practicing. Her piano teacher told me she has reached a new plateau. In weight loss this is a bad thing, but in this case it was supposed to be a good thing-go figure! She likes to take life pretty easy, but unfortunately, middle school just doesn't run at a slow pace, so she is adjusting. But she did skip drama this morning in favor of sleeping in. I think it all gets to her sometimes. I will take a pic of her tomorrow at volleyball, she really does look cute in her uniform!!!

Danya's piano teacher gave me a call, that Danya is giving so much attitude at lesson that she has had to cut the lessons short and give Emily more time! Oh boy! Talk about embarrassing! So I am now rewarding Danya for a smiley face on her lessons and standing right next to her during practice time. I was very suprised to say the least, because Danya actually likes playing piano. I think she just wants to skate through things and doesn't want to be told what to do! On the plus side, she really is pretty musical and is such an easy child to parent!

This sounds like I am complaining about the kids. I don't mean to at all. They are fantastic and super and all of that!!! Just like all of us they have their moments, and I guess that is what there is to report this month

Car-Car is soooo cute

I thought I should post some pics of Carson, as he is so cute. He is driving me a bit batty as all he wants to do is play outside. He will be out there for hours too. He was out at the park being babysat for 2 1/2 hours. The last half hour was in the rain. It was only when the drops got big and he was soaking that he was unhappy. He also loooooves to play with balls. All day long he just picks up balls carries them around and then throws them.

Here is Carson doing a couple of his favorite things!

Caleb's courage

My neighbor Jean told me this story. She teaches kindergarten in the room adjoining Caleb's kindergarten class. The front doors are across a small entry way from one another and a back door also links the rooms.

I guess Mrs. Fernandez asked Caleb to go show Ms. Magrino (Jean) one of his papers he had done. He said no, he didn't want to. A little while later he decides okay, I am ready to go show Ms. Magrino my paper. He gets up to leave and decides, no, he is not quite ready. A while later, yes, he is ready now, but wait, no, maybe not. He did this a few times and finally screws up the courage to go. As he heads towards the front door, Ms. Fernandez asks him where he is going. He replies that he is going to show Ms. Jean his paper. She tells him he can't go out the front door because there is no one out in the hall to watch him, he needs to go through the back and adjoining door. Okay, well, no, he doesn't think he will go then. And he never does.

Caleb's teacher also told Ms. Jean that Caleb is really smart. (He really is a thinker, I don't know if it is his age or what, but it is hard to break him from his train of thought, sometimes when there are more important matters at hand.) Jean told her that well, he should be with his dad out there in his work clothes mowing mazes into the grass and reading Harry Potter and Lemony Snicket to them. They really are lucky to have such a dad.

I sometimes think because I have had such good men in my life, ie, my dad, brothers, husband, father-in-law, brother-in-laws, that I take for granted that men are good, caring people who fulfill their obligations and make sacrifices for their families. When I see people who don't believe men really do these things or are just floored by the things that Dan does, I have to think how lucky I am to have been surrounded by them. I also have to wonder if we all understand how different society might be if there were more men like them. Hmm...What do I know?
