The next morning we went to the Wet Market and bought some different fruits to try. We then went to a very old and interesting Monastary and one of the busiest temples I have ever been to with hordes of people purchasing papers to burn and incense and leaving piles of oranges. It was very different because the atmosphere was very similar to a market. I don't know that this is a normal atmosphere, because the adjacent monastary was very reverent.
Then we went to little India to eat with our fingers off a banana leaf. The food was great, but I do prefer utensils!
The we did some shopping in little India before heading to the mall to meet up with the Yung's from our ward. They are from Singapore and happened to be in town the same week as us. They treated us to some various Chinese foods and they were all delish!
Then we head over to Sentosa Island to see Singapore's mascot the Merlion and a laser light show. Unfortunately we sat in the front row and got drenched. Thankfully it is tropical weather in Singapore so it was not cold just itchy from the salt water!
The next morning, we walked around the neighborhood and saw the housing of the area, and walked through a brand new very modern buddhist temple being built in their neighborhood. We also went to a park with all kinds of statues and the 10 courts of hell. It was very gruesome and can be used to terrify small children into good behavior. For example did you know that you will be cut in two for wasting food or misusing books? Yikes!
That afternoon we headed to Chinatown and that took about the remainder of the day. It was fun to shop and look around.
I forgot to add that we went to a fish spa, where little fish eat the dead skin off your feet. THAT is quite an experience!
We really just had fun being together. I was sad to come home just because I knew I would have to share Dan again with the kids, church, and work. Not to mention running and household chores. Thanks to Dan's mom for her great job with the kids, we know they probably ran her ragged, but I am also grateful that she spent that personal time with them. They really do adore her!
